Julia Roberts did it and so did the Pussycat dolls! The Indian fashion has been always tempting, so much so that, even the Hollywood beauties can’t resist. They never missed the opportunity of donning the six-yard wonder whenever it was required. Remember Julia Roberts swathed in a Gujrati-style Saree, looking tall and lithe in the movie, “Eat, Pray, Love”.

Your clothing represents your culture. Clothing is in fact a type of indirect interaction that we willingly or unwillingly get involved in. By wearing a particular kind of outfit, we convey to the onlooker which part of the world we belong to, our knowledge in that distinct apparel category, our preference in colors, different choices, etcetera. Saree is the basic and the most important outfit for women in India and is available in a humongous kinds of styles and designs.

The exquisite beauty and grace of a women draped in this flowing garment has also been the inspiration to short stories and poetries. Even thought the garment has originated in India, the use is no more limited to this unique country. Apart from Asia which is the most popular user of the saree, it is slowly getting ubiquitous. Many international celebs also used it for their red carpet appearances and gave their greatly toned body a touch of the Indian Culture. Patricia Arquette, who starred in Hollywood movies like Bringing out the dead, and Ed Wood, amazed her spectators by wearing a red Saree in an award show.

The best international touch (according to me) to an Indian Saree happened when one of the most influential people in the world wore it. Oprah Winfrey. She draped an orange and gold Saree to the party of Parameshwar Godrej, in Mumbai. She was escorted there by the Bachchan family.

Top Indian designers such as Tarun Tahilini and Ritu Kumar often come up with different Saree designs to provide for their international clients from time to time. When the gorgeous model Elizabeth Hurley got married to an Indian textile heir, Arun Nayar, she was often spotted wearing Sarees and that didn’t discontinue after their divorce in 2011.

Time and on, they have always been able to bring the best out in a women. Women in India knows it, Women in the rest of the world knows it, and we, the male category, know it beyond doubt. So folks, who would you vote for if given a choice of who looks pretty in a Saree – Indian or Non-Indian? Please submit your views.
